100 CFU/ml Water - Literally signifies one hundred colony forming units (CFU) per milliliter of water. Bacteria usually require a minimum number of individual organisms to be located in a given region in order to produce a colony. The minimum number of bacteria is called a colony forming unit. The bacterial burden or infective potential of a sample of water is often listed as the number of CFU in each ml. One common cutoff is 100 CFU per ml of water.
